My thoughts on

1. Mohinder is still preachy, but he is also working for Mr. Bennet, which automatically makes him more awesome. He gains another couple of plus points for apparently living in a life partnership with Matt Parkman now and being the Dad who can cook.

2. Claire is back to top form. She was angsty in this, but not horribly so. I think Claire works *much* better in a highschool environment. Also: yay for taking Mr. Muggles with them! (And the rest of the family, of course.) Mr. Bennet losing his temper (while still staying completely cool) with the Copy Kingdom guy was hot. I mean, awesome. Yeah.
Flying Boy sort of reminded me of Lana stalking first season Clark, but also of Angel and Spike, what with lurking outside Buffy's Claire's window.

3. Parkman totally did cheat on his test. Molly is right about that. Her pics are seriously creepy, though.

4. Noooooo! How can they kill Hiro's Dad? Even Ando's extreme prettiness in his new outfit didn't make it any less horrible. *weeps on the inside*

5. Hiro is still wonderful. "I broke history!" But seventeenth century Japan was... not so convincing. Particularly Kensei's modern English bugged me. Also, I want the Swordsmith's Daughter to turn out to be the real Kensei, as in she grabs the sword and performs all the heroic deeds he supposedly did. but probably it's going to be Hiro himself, or he's going to convince Kensei to do it after all.

6. Mrs. Petrelli must be the least sympathetic character(as in her mere presence on the screen makes you think "wow, she sure is evil") ever, but I concede that she is also sort of cool. Poor Nathan. (Does everyone know he's a drunk? I mean, he won the vote, it would be major news for him the become a drunk. So much for his political career.... oh, wait. That's not a problem in the US, right?) I still don't care about Peter. In fact, if he's lost his memory, I care about him even less.

7. Maya and Alejandro... well, Heroes, I get that you want me to read your webcomics, but most of them are seriously crappy, especially the art.

8. Where's Sylar? I miss him. And where are Niki and DL and Micah? Not that I miss them terribly much, but I'd still like to know.

So this wasn't a bad episode, but it also wasn't terribly exciting. Kind of like Smallville season openers tend to be: underwhelming after a great finale. (Well, "Zod" was that way... and the Season four opener. All the other seasons actually had better first than last episodes.) Let's see how this one does!

Mohinder & Matt Parkman was rather...okay, that's not one of the standard pairings, as far as I knew, but sure, not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth! (and Mohinder is still distractingly pretty). Though I kinda disagree that Matt was cheating. In a real-life situation like that, you win however you can; cheating would be when you artificially inflate your own skills, and would be dangerous if a cop did it because he'd be going on the beat unprepared. The telepathy is something he can rely on in the real world, so why shouldn't he use it in the exam? Even if he can't talk about it.

[livejournal.com profile] gnine already went on about old-time Japan in detail. Suffice to say...there are problems. A lot of problems. Starting with that at that date, all gaijin were executed on sight and going on from there...

And Mr. Bennet being badass was totally hot awesome. Yeah. Awesome.

psst - this has nothing to do with anything, except that you're the first German speaker I know to come to mind and I'd really appreciate the help. How do you pronounce the letter "w" in the German alphabet? And is there a standard way to spell it out, the way in English we say "double u"?

(this is for a weird bit of original-fic I'm working on, in which I have a (American) char named Wolfgang who is in need of a nickname riffing on his name while keeping it fairly obscure...)

In German, "w" is generally pronounced like "v" in English. The "o" in Wolfgang would sound more or less like the "o" in "lord", although a bit more open and at the front of the mouth, and shorter; "gang" rhymes with English "sung".

The German equivalent of "double u" would be "weh", with an "e" like in "ten" or in "Yahweh", but longer and pronounced more at the front of the mouth. I hope that helps!

Hmmm, not sure if I can use it or not - but thanks a lot, was helpful to know! (his real name doesn't actually come up until the story's end, if I pull it off right it should be a reveal, but...)
