Tumblr is addictive. I think the main reason is that it's so active - compared to tumblr, LJ is a ghost town, or a film in slow motion. I wish you could somehow combine tumblr's liveliness with LJ's far superior comment function - what annoys me most is that you can't really reply to comments on tumblr, so any kind of interactivity is severely limited.

Anyway, my newly found tumblr addiction has caused two Gallifrey ficlets to happen (there is, like, an honest to god living Gallifrey fandom on tumblr!)

Finished the newest Vorkosigan Saga book yesterday night. A fast (would have been faster if I had more time) read, entertaining as usual, and full of Bujold's typical brand of medical sci-fi (despite being space opera, the actual science fiction part of her books is always about medical or gender issues). Compared to the newest Dresden Files book, it's interesting how "Ghost Story" made me want to read the next Dresden File RIGHT NOW (granted, it ends on yet another EVIL CLIFFHANGER) whereas "Cryoburn"'s ending is kinda strange (it's not quite a sucker punch and not quite an anticlimax) and it leaves me thinking that I'd like another book that focuses on Ivan or Mark or Cordelia, but not really another book that focuses on Miles.

Also, I signed up for the next Gallifreyathon at morepolitics and if you like the Gallifrey audios, and want to produce fanart, fanfic or podfic for them, so should you! It's a tiny fandom, but I thought that last year we had a very high quality output.

Oh, wow. It's always amazing when people take the time and effort to turn your fic into podfic, but when someone turns a 20000 word story into a podfic, that's REALLY amazing.

What's also wonderful is that not only was listening to this podfic a thing of pure joy, it also made me realize that A Family Affair is probably one of the best things I've ever written. I didn't think so until now, because I wrote it very quickly and Gallifrey is such a small fandom that it didn't get nearly as many comments as my D/M fic or other stuff, but listening to Katy's recording I realized that this is GOOD STUFF. Katy does everyone's voices so brilliantly that it's like listening to a Companion Chronicle for Gallifrey.

Note #1: aralias didn't just beta this monster even though she still had her own fic to finish, she also provided virtual hand-holding services while I wibbled excessively about it. She rocks :)

Note #2: I "borrowed" the name of Narvin's House from none other than ficciones because I like it. Other than that the fic is obviously based on "Invasion of Time" to some degree, but also to two small lines in "Panacea". There, Leela expects that Narvin wants to see her to revoke her official status as bodyguard, and Matthias tells Valyes that he needn't complain about Leela because the visa review is coming up. Epic fic about the visa application process on Gallifrey! Just what you've always wanted! No, thank god that's not really what this about.
