This chapter is where my mission to incorporate not only every minor SV character ever, but also tons of Bat-characters, becomes really obvious. And also: finally some answers!

Title: The Light and the Silence (5/?)
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Clex, but there are other pairings, slash, het and...um... other.
Fandom: Smallville, a couple of DC characters, inspired by the Man of Steel Annual #3, an Elseworlds Superman story called "Unforgiven", of which I posted scans here.
Genre: AU, science-fiction, action/adventure
Warnings: some violence, minor character deaths
Summary:
They had no official name for themselves… you could probably call them a conspiracy. Businessmen, high-ranking military, scientists, even royalty, if I'm not mistaken )

Here's chapter two, now with added Bat-characters and more Smallville cast. I'm using a lot of minor Smallville characters in this as well as the regulars, for no reason other than it's fun. And like Lost, this chapter answers absolutely none of your questions, but raises a couple of new ones.

Since I've gotten past the major hurdles (plot, worldbuilding, first few sex scenes, coming up with a fancy title - and 30 000 + words!) I've decided to start posting the first chapter of my new epic. The first nine chapters are already written, but I assume that the story will be about twice as long when it's finished. It's also, incidentally, the response to the AU prompt [livejournal.com profile] ladydey gave me:

I know that someone already asked for Star Wars Clex, but I'm thinking: Clark as an Interstellar Bounty Hunter/Retrieval Expert hired by Lionel to rescue/find his wayward son Lex in various space ports.

Other than that, it is strongly inspired by the Man of Steel Annual #3, an Elseworlds Superman story called "Unforgiven", of which I posted scans here.

So [livejournal.com profile] xparrot and [livejournal.com profile] gnine asked for a Ninja/Pirate AU fic. And this got me to "researching" Ninjas (which consisted of reading related wikipedia articles and watching exactly one episode of the anime Naruto on a day I spent sick at home, which didn't overwhelm me exactly. I'm definitely not into anime anymore.)

Anyways, I got as far as thinking: if Clark were a Ninja, his given Japanese name would be Hoshi (meaning "star", one of the few words of Japanese I know. I can say "Good morning/evening, my name is N., I am German. Are you Japanese?" "sorry" "thank you" "I love you" and "What is this?", as well as assorted useless words like "star", "darkness", "delicious", "boyfriend" etc.)

And then, in the depths of memory, something stirred. Huh. Ninja Clark. I read this before somewhere... I looked closely at my harddrive.

I found the crack.

DC was there before me. I present you therefore the JLA as Ninjas Elseworlds, complete with Clark as a pretty ninja and the most Superman/Batman text you've seen since The Authority:

SHOGUN OF STEEL
a DC Elseworlds Comic
21 large scans behind cut. Follow the ninja crack! )

Now wasn't that a nice story? It didn't have pirates, but otherwise, what more could you want?

If you guys ever needed proof that comics are awesome, here's it, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. Superman to Lana Lang, but Clark could say the exact same thing to Lana on the show and everyone would rejoice!

I just thought SV fandom needed this. I hope tonight's finale is awesome. Hope dies last, okay? I haven't got to watch it until tomorrow!

Here is the last of the "fics I'll never write" fics. By common demand, I present you:

Batman orders Clark to marry Lex to "keep him out of trouble."

Lex had been rather surprised to be invited to Bruce Wayne's bachelor party. )

First of all, here's something the "Fics you think I'll never write" meme spawned. [livejournal.com profile] delmar_slashers said: "1. Lex gets Clark pregnant - again." and [livejournal.com profile] hoperoy agreed. So you think I'd never write MPreg? Think again! I'm fully capable of it :D

Title: Fifty-Two
Rating: ...R (?)
Pairing: Clex
Warning: Fluff. Horrible fluff. MPreg. Futurefic clichés. A joke that might fall short if you don't know recent comics developments. My usual weird SV/DC mash-up.
Summary: "If there was one thing Lex had mastered, then it was the art of plausible deniability and a good cover-up." Kryptonian pregnancies last fifty-two weeks.

I'm busy, and I shouldn't be procrastinating by writing incoherent meta at all, but I need a break.

We've now watched the third Star Trek episode in my Cultural Studies course. All three were TOS eps ("Errand of Mercy", "A Private Little War" and "The Omega Glory") and although they're dated, they're still very good. I love Star Trek a lot. I think it might be my most enduring fandom and my favourite utopia. It carries a powerful message of optimism, and it's one of the most convincing depictions of Western values (which I tend to be critical of) I've ever seen. Star Trek is extremely concerned with morals, and it often treats the topic in a way I can agree with.

Which made me think about how different my current main fandoms are. Both Smallville and comics seem to be (on the surface) about good and evil. But they don't hold up to it at all. They have no moral message. Good and evil, much of the time, are merely labels. Freedom of choice is neglible in SV, while the DC verse shows humankind as unable to defend itself without heroes.

This is mirrored by the frequent complaints of fans: "Good and Bad guys are indistinguishable in SV" or "Clark should be better because he's going to be Superman." But should he? He is supposed to be a hero. People tend to assume that this means that he's going to be morally infallible and therefore they don't like that Clark on SV is anything but. But are superheroes really heroes in the sense that they're paragons of virtue?

In the comics, they aren't )
