Hello from France. The weather has turned less beach-y, and there's only so many medieval cities like Carcasonne you can go sight-seeing in, plus I feel like I could write something. So here's a little prompt game I cooked up.

List A is a list of Pairings, Fandoms or Characters I'm feeling in the mood to write. List B is a list of prompts. Pick one item from A and one from B and I'm gonna write you something :)

I wanted to go to Occupy Frankfurt today but I failed because of EARLY MORNINGS. At least it's no surprise to me that my political convictions < my epic laziness. Well, now I've got time to:
- read "An Ideal Husband"
- take care of Radiosonic editing stuff
- look for my half-orc character sheet
- clean the bathroom and my room
- write this post

A post by [livejournal.com profile] xparrot reminded me that I wanted to do a write a little post regarding an excellent comic I've been reading, namely: Journey into Mystery (volume 4, starting with issue 622). It's part of the Marvel universe and their Thor franchise, and the first trade paperback, in my opinion, is up there with the best bits from the Sandman comics. The art quality suffers in the second TPB, but I'll still buy the third TPB even though I rarely buy comics because they're quite expensive here (usually I just get my fix from scans_daily).

Journey into Mystery is, quite simply, an attempt to redeem Marvel's Loki. )

I'm the last person to have thoughts on Avengers, I guess, but I saw it last week and I keep writing bits of this post in my head.

Before we went to see this movie I had a conversation with some of my friends about who my favourite superhero (or my favourite superhero movie) is (because I'm probably the one with the biggest interest in superheroes) and I had a hard time answering. In the end, my answers were: the X-Men, or or the Justice League or I dunno. One of the guys said, "So what you really like is superhero teams." I should have said, "I'm a roleplayer, of course what I like best is teams," but of course you only come up with the best replies later. But yeah, I like superhero teams. And the one thing I like better than an origin story is a "getting the team together" story.

And one of the things that struck me about "Avengers" is that instead of taking away from the many, many characters it added something to nearly all of them - it made them better and cooler and funnier than they were on their own.

Yuletide

bagheera_san: (OMG)
I wanted to make a Yuletide recs post, but everything I want to rec is what everyone else had already recced (like that Horrible Histories fic), so it seems kinda pointless.

But there still needs to be a post, because I got not one, but two yuletide gifts, one for regular yuletide, and one for madness.

The Scientific Method (Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Mature, Tony/Hank, Jan/Hank)
Anon combined two things I like and asked for, fanfic clichés and Tony/Hank. In this case it's sex pollen, except that this fic shows that Tony can't actually distinguish himself under the influence from himself as he is usually. And he almost makes a mess of things, but everyone else reacts quite well, because they're awesome people and this is an awesome yuletide gift :)

Told in fallen skies (Krabat, Master/Jirko)
Another fic that is EXACTLY what I asked for, in ways I didn't dare hope for. This one is dark and sad and wonderfully in-character, plus it fills some of the gaps in the Master's story. Anon is an extremely cool person because they wrote me a fic in a fandom hardly anyone knows and so it's pretty much a one person audience.

I also wrote a story, on the 24th/25th. It was meant to be a small treat, but turned into a proper 1000+ sized thing because I'm incapable of keeping things short.

I can't keep my comment-fic short - but at least that's an excuse for taking so long to write this. That, and I had to watch Avengers. This is for [livejournal.com profile] dragonofmemory who gave me superheroes and Robert Burn's "To A Mouse" as a prompt.

Title: Justifying Ill Opinion
Fandom: Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Length: 3,300 words
Spoilers: This is set somewhere around "Panther's Quest" and "Everything is Wonderful", so at the beginning of S1.
Summary: Tony tries to do nice things.

I'm truly sorry man's dominion/ Has broken Nature's social union,/ And justifies that ill opinion/ Which makes thee startle/ At me, thy poor, earth born companion/ And fellow mortal )
