I went to see Sweeney Todd with two friends on a whim tonight. Well. They all sang well. I don't like musicals, but this was actually good - the musical part. The actors were good, too.
The plot/action kind of made me feel ashamed of being part of the human race because I could watch it without being overly shocked or scandalized, and I could even laugh about it (Although I think much of the laughter in the cinema was just to cover up the discomfort). There is absurd, and there is grotesque, and there is horror and then there's... this. (Mind you, I've seen movies that were a lot more gorey than this, and zombie movies, where anthropophagy is kind of par of the course - it was how machinized and routine the slaughter got that was unsettling, because this isn't some primal fear shocker movie, this is a bit too close to real human horrifying behaviour to be part of a pretty musical.)
All in all, I can't reccomend it.
