A fun (and funny - SV discovered humour this season, which I appreciate even if they're not exactly brilliant at it) episode, but I was less impressed by it than by "Labyrinth".

Red!Clark wasn't as awesome in this as in other red episodes. Is it just me, or has Red!Clark matured a little, too?

Clark and Lois, in a Daily Planet office on a desk, Clark and Lois in a phone booth (!!!), Clark and Lois leaping tall buildings... yeah, okay, no matter how many time SV brings the cheesy anvils, I still love it. I wish I was more interested in Lois as a person, but I like her again this season. She's so awkward sometimes.

For the first time in any episode I genuinely liked Jimmy. Poor guy, great acting.

Lex pulling a gun on Clark - I think he's so sure of Clark's powers by now that he didn't really believe he could kill Clark with it, but he was willing to take the risk. I'm okay with that, I think Lex was definitely angry enough.

And the baby. The poor, creepy mutant baby. (Nurseries and Lex - also creepy.) My theories:

1) the baby is Zod's. Yeah, I know they didn't have sex.
2) the baby was fathered by Lex during Vessel, when he had kryptonian powers but wasn't possessed by Zod yet. That might technically make the baby a little half-kryptonian Luthor(A boy! Please!) I think this is maybe the most likely theory.
3) the baby, however unlikely, is Clark's. Yawn!
3.1.) the baby is Clark's and Lex's. A clone! Yeah, wishful thinking. And yet, I could see Lex doing that. (duh, it's canon)
4) the baby is a kryptomutant, because Lex and Lana are. (If Lana is a mutant, I'll forgive SV every Lana scene ever) What powers will it have?
5) the baby, for no particular reason, is a Zoner. Alien! Horror!

the red k was only a little tiny bit from her lips, not bunch, and I prefer a more mature red!Clark cuz this one wasn't all just bravado like S1 or S2, instead he was shooting everyone with toughlines.

I pick #2 for baby, yay!

2) is the most appealing, although it'll fuck Superman canon up but good. I trust Smallville in that area, though, the usually don't do stupid stuff in terms of meta-canon.

I liked mature redClark, because it showed that the character isn't static, but something that evolves alongside Clark - and I loved that Martha finally told Clark that red!Clark isn't something separate from him, but his own repressed feelings. Which makes this two episodes about Clark's subsconcious/Id in a row, which is way cool. :)

Have you ever read Joan Vinge's The Snow Queen?

I think that, like Arienrhod, Lex had himself cloned and had a zygote implanted in Lana's uterus after they'd had sex in Wither. Perhaps a couple of days later, so that she wouldn't notice that she'd have to have gotten pregnant before they'd slept together. 8-)

In meta-canon terms, maybe it'd be the clone into which Lex will eventually put his own brain?
