Just watched the Smallville ep "Rage" (since I'm in Germany, it always takes a little while to get hold of new episodes) and decided to do some commentary.

Does anyone else think that Smallville has better music this season? I do. Less mediocre alt-rock, more movie-score kinda music. Yay!

I was so sure Lana had cancer! Damn, wishful thinking. I don't even mind her very much anymore, but if the alternative to cancer is pregnancy (of course it is, it's TV), then I'd rather have cancer.

Ollie's drug habit wasn't a bad story for this ep, his motivation very understandable. (And sort of a nice kick in the ass for Clark, who has all those abilities and doesn't use them. I love it each time when Ollie says that to Clark.) Was it an allusion to the "My sidekick is a Junkie!" storyline from the Green Arrow comics? Maybe. Ollie's costume is hot, but it takes ages to put it on (especially with the "meaningful" stares the show is o fond of).

So Clark does still care about Lex :) He was very nicely concerned about him when he was dead - and he saved his life again. Points for that, Smallville! I wonder how Lex rationalised it, though - will he think he's invulnerable now (he does have enhanced healing powers already, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch), or did he find the used syringe?

Lois was less annoying than usual.

Chloe, however, was less awesome than usual. Has she totally forgotten what Lionel did to her? Has everyone forgotten that? How insensitive is it of Martha to invite both Chloe and Lionel? (And doesn't Ollie hate Lionel, too? WTF!)

I love the Mionel. I know Lionel isn't being honest with them, and there'll be sudden and inevitable betrayal, but his flirting gets me each time. His apologies when he nearly kissed her - aww. He is the most consistently fun character of the show, despite all the stuff he's done.

Lex's Thanksgiving dinner sucked. I'm starting to think that Lex really has no idea what to do with girls. He was horribly stiff and polite with Helen and he's doing it again, much worse, with Lana. Desiree and Victoria were a bit different, but he was playing Victoria and Desiree was manipulating him with her pheromones. But every time Lex plays at "true love" with a girl, it's just awful. It's not that Lex is that stiff all the time, he used to be perfectly relaxed and charming with Lana before they dated. The same with Helen, they were cute when they flirted, but as soon as they moved in together - catastrophe! (Although, it might just be a symptome of post-Season3!Lex, who never really relaxes with anybody.)

I liked the episode, more than I liked "Reunion" and "Fallout", probably because of the many character moments and the fact that, for once, there actually was some tension in the episode. (Who was gonna come to the dinner? Cancer or pregnancy? Will Martha and Lionel or won't they?)
