True Blood is a really good TV series. We've now watched through the end of S2 and I still really like it. It has a whole bunch of cool characters (in a terribly predictable twist, my favourite is Eric Northman. He's an ancient viking vampire who has antagonistic tension with the brooding male lead. It's like someone smushed Thor, Spike and Methos together into one sexy package), a leading het romance that I find quite amusing because Vampire Bill is just so silly, and a cool mix of humor, violence, sexiness, and supernatural that reminds me of Buffy in the best way. Also, I like their cosmology - the Queen's explanation that supernatural beings basically convinced themselves of their own power and existence is a nice change from the usual. Also, none of that soul/no soul nonsense from Buffy!

House's newest season at first seemed like it jumped the shark, then it turned into Oz, and now it is like a medical version of White Collar. Strangely enough, I'm still amused.

"Industrial Evolution", the newest Six and Evelyn audio is so-so. It's been a while since Big Finish has done anything really cool, hasn't it? Six and Evelyn are still a nice team, though.

"The Silver Turk", the newest Eight audio, re-introduces his new companion. Mary Shelley is a good companion, I think, since she's historical, but in the same way as Jamie - if anything, she's a lot more like Charley. Also, she says hilarious Romantic shit like, "but you said we would travel! Where are the mountains, and the exotic peasants???" Exotic peasants, guys. The story itself was, in a way, a far less cool Jubilee but with Cybermen. Not a bad story, but nothing new either.

This is apparently set in Eight's past, during the time he travels with Gemma and Samson? So it doesn't pick up where we left after Lucie's death, and instead retreats into the nice, safe time of Eight as he was when he met Charley. I like that Eight better, but it feels like a cop-out.

But that isn't my main complaint. No, the worst thing about this is definitely the new opening theme. I mean, WTF. That theme deserves a warning. It's what would happen if you took all previous Who themes, cut them into little peaces, sewed them back together wrongly, and re-animated them with too much lightning. SO TERRIBLE.

ETA: I'm considering ordering "The Sense of an Ending" by Julian Barnes from amazon, since it won the Booker prize. I haven't read anything new by Barnes for a while, but I really love some of his books like "England, England", "History of the World in 13 1/2 chapters" and "Flaubert's Parrot", so I'm curious.
