I'm of the opinion that a good writer will make any pairing work, and you certainly made this work. Even though it's still a bit mind-bendy, especially if you continue to read all the books, but then there's playing and manipulating and scheming and especially Littlefinger has ulterior motifs to everything, so, yeah, that somehow one could even believe a scene like this to be in the books.
