Dostoevsky's touch and go like that. Imho, he's sort of got an architectural to Tolstoy's panoramic approach to Russian lit, if that makes any sense--meaning that if you don't like this complicated building!novel he's made you, you're a bit SOL, but you might really lurve the next one?
I would almost vote Razuminkin/Raskolnikov/Dunya/Sonya OT4, just for the omg!Spring Vacation Siberia!ending. Also, wtf second epilogue with the cheesy-ass "And then he learned a lesson. More on that later. Or, y'know, never."? Weak. It's one of those times when you can see the firing squad/gulag/religious conversion experience burned into the writer's consciousness, and I feel /bad/ for him, because there's all his creative rich world-building that he can't help doing, and he's trying to impose this limited moralistic twee element onto because he's just that /broken/, but it's still unbelievable, convictionless writing. Sorry. I'll shut up. I just love that book too hard.
...Nabakov is still a fucker for dismissing Dostoevsky just for his moralism, though. Way to not get it, Nabakov.
God. FF.net IS that randomly incoherent. Back in high school, writing fic for an entirely different genre, I flew into bitchy mocking because someone on ff.net daaaared call my characterization 'seme' and 'uke.' They meant it in a 'lulz, flattering!' way, too. Not that 'seme' and 'uke' still don't annoy the living fuck out of me as a weird appropriation of Japanese historical terms and a huge gender/sexuality issues quagmire, but why oh why was I an embarrassing wanky bitch then? ...oh yeah. I was in high school.
Hey, in random!news, you've read Waiting for Godot, right?
...Are Vladamir and Estragon totally gay or am I too deep in the slash haze? I can't even tell anymore.
I am way jealous of you for having been to Petersburg.
