The complicated balance of power between them is what attracts me most to Clex as a pairing, I think. (As characters, it's the epicness and the woobieness, but as a pairing, it's this.) With all their insane power and weaknesses and dependence, they're such a volatile mixture and still so very well-matched.
At the end, when he's "negotiating", Lex is totally projecting an upperhand he doesn't have, simply because he knows that it's the right strategy.
