Finished an essay today, then panicked for two hours about which topic to choose for the next, then decided that Freud was the way to go after all, then went to go see Thor on the big screen.

Now, Marvel Comics!Norse Myth has always been ridiculously WRONG (Loki and Thor are step-brothers. Asgardians are aliens from another dimension, or something.) and yet somehow right. Still it took me about 10 minutes to get into this, but then it was SO MUCH FUN.

It was funny (this I expected least), very clearly tried to be as politically correct as possible (both in the gender and the race department), it GOT Thor's personality (sweet. so very sweet and dumb and yet not really dumb where it counts) and I GLEED at the things it did with Loki.

Marvel!Loki is never really a proper trickster, more a straight out villain, and the best he's got so far in comics canon was by turning into a woman semi-permanently, having lots of UST with Baldur and then dying a redeeming fake death only to come back as kid!Loki (I lie: Marvel Loki is much closer to the original than he seems at first sight, ever since writers realized that he ought to be ambiguous). But movie!Loki is woobie-tastic, and while that is also wrong-yet-right in terms of myth, it's much, much better than I hoped for. I forsee much slash :D

Kenneth Branagh is clearly a cool guy who knows how to make a fun comics movie.
