Summer term is over, my rather short and busy summer break has begun and interestingly, after more or less dreading England for a long time now I'm actually starting to look forward to it. Some things that I've done lately:
1) Listened to about a dozen Big Finishs (Stockbridge Trilogy, Key2Time, Jamie and Six, the newest Five and the newest Eight, some Benny Summerfield, etc) and enjoyed it all tremendously.
2) Tried to write, created tons of WIP documents, and generally failed at everything.
3) Hung out with friends and realized that maybe I really was a bit stupid when I broke up with /rejected potential ex-boyfriend #2. He's in town again and he's hot, he's nice, and he has a surprisingly good & compatible taste in television, as I discovered upon looking at his harddrive for stuff to watch at 3am and drunk. Which led to watching "Lesbian Vampire Killers" in English, which is not good television at all, despite Paul McGann. It's not even as funny as Samson vs. the Vampire Women, which is a b/w movie about a Mexican wrestler who dresses up as a superhero to fight, well, lesbian vampires. Also, Boondock Saints 2 is a much gayer movie, especially since for most of it we thought that the female lead was one of the male characters from part one after a sex change operation.
4) Helped BFF to move into her first own flat away from home! And a very pretty flatshare it is. Now I finally feel motivated to move out as well.
5) Had the somewhat scary experience of being made to drink fancy coffee in a hip bar with fellow students who are both HIP and INTELLECTUAL and talked to me about literature and theory and uni and it would have been perfect(ly terrible) if we had all worn thick glasses and smoked and there'd been jazz in the background and maybe Adorno and Sartre would have joined us at some point (I fear I did not make very good conversation because I was too distracted by such fantasies/nightmarish visions). I do like talking about uni-related stuff, but there's talking about uni-related topics and there's being AGGRESSIVELY INTELLECTUAL. Also, I think I qualify for their wonderfully exclusive circle only because I'm the TA of a much-admired professor.
6) Discovered that studying in the library does not work for me.
7) Watched "Sherlock" after my flist was all abuzz about it. It's very watchable. Sherlock Holmes apparently never gets old. It reminds me a lot of House if you took away all the tedious stuff about House and replaced it with people running around wildly, and Benedict Cumberbatch is hot (especially since, like Colin whatshisname, he reminds me of Peter Wingfield, aka Methos), and I like this Watson as much as I liked Jude Law's Watson, if not more. I've seen people consider Cumberbatch for Doctor Twelve, but actually what I thought was that he wouldn't make a half bad Master (although he is very tall).
