I consumed three pieces of media today. None of them was overwhelmingly good.

1) The Dark Knight Returns
This is probably akin to heresy to some comics fans, but: this comic has not aged well. Or maybe it's not so much that it has become dated, it seems that it has been imitated so often and so badly that the original reads like its own horrible parody. I like "Batman: Year One" better. As futures for the DC verse go, I'm not sure whether I prefer DKR or Kingdom Come - I like neither. Although the ending was sort of sweet. Bruce and Clark are like Romeo and Juliet! (sorry. I'm feeling silly.) I didn't expect that. I also didn't expect Joker to be sort of hot. *shudders*

2)I, Robot
When the movie started, I thought, "Whee, real science-fiction! I haven't seen or read any in ages" but that's the problem. It's the kind of hard sci-fi that always feels sort of heartless deep down to me. Asimov never really did it for me. Also, Will Smith was deeply annoying and so was the constant product placement. I kept expecting a surprising twist that didn't come, which added to my disappointment.

3)The Prestige
For about four fifths of the movie, I was completely lost. Christian Bale's mumbling is barely understandable for me, and so were many of the other actors' voices and accents. Then I realized that the plot is nonlinear, and that it's supposed to be confusing. Then the surprising twist came, and it was suitably horrifying and imaginative. And somewhere in between, there was Tesla played by David Bowie *g*

I think I shall now look for The Prestige fic.
