Things I've seen (and eaten) today that Germany does not have:
1) Newcastle
2) lots and lots of English fog, so I didn't actually see a lot of 1)
3) a shopping centre of such gigantic proportions that after two hours of wandering around lost in it, it took another half hour to find my way out of it
4) yet another Victorian indoor market (and with today's weather, I fully understand why they're so prevalent in England)
5) a cupcake with green buttercream and what I suppose was meant to be a witch
6) the inside of several Newcastle geek shops, among them a Forbidden Planet (the selection of rpg books was rather disappointing, but the comics section rocked) where I valiantly resisted the temptation of buying Doctor Who stuff
Say what you want about English food, but the cakes rock. I love carrot cake and ginger shortbread and will get fat from eating too much cake. Another thing I love are self-checkouts at the supermarket: no machine has ever or will ever be as rude and distressing as the self-checkout machine at Tesco.

Date: 2010-10-08 05:17 pm (UTC)The Forbidden Planets in northern England are a different chain from the one(s?) in the South and yes the RPG selection is abysmal. I generally prefer the small independent shops, but they seem to die out everywhere. If you are on the lookout for anything specific, do tell me. We're going to the Spiel in Essen in two weeks time and they have EVERYTHING! At very reasonable prices I might add.

Date: 2010-10-10 03:40 pm (UTC)I had one pizza so far and HATED it, as it had way, way too much of everything, especially meat and cheese, layers and layers of it. It was like my own personal pizza nightmare. I think I'll stick to cake and fish&chips.
