bagheera_sanAll my forms concerning the university have been sent to Durham and been received - and I've found a place to live, too! A privately owned hall of residence which is only about 1.5 km away from the library, campus, etc. The rent in the UK is much higher than halls of residence in Germany, but about the same as a non-catered college hall, and I didn't want catered, anyway. It'll have laundry facilities, furniture, no bills besides the rent and broadband internet, so it'll save me quite some hassle.
My only reservation is about sharing the kitchen and bathroom with four strangers, as the flats are grouped in five with shared facilities. I've always been a bit wary about flatshares, since I'm an only child and an extremely reserved person. I enjoy living with my family, so I'm not a total recluse, but even my closest friends quickly make me wish for some space and alone-time. I applied for a post-grad room, so hopefully the other students will be close to me in age and not, say, a bunch of rowdy seventeen-year-olds (yes, I am an old lady fearing for her lawn. Deal with it. Shit, I just realized that I'll be seven years older than some of these kids.) Living in close quarters always makes me feel like I'm living in some kind of panopticon under constant, critical surveillance by people only too ready to judge me, when most likely, they just don't care as long as I keep the bathroom clean. *sigh*
In other news, b_e's new RP game has finally given me a way to unite my two primary hobbies - fandom and roleplaying. Maaaaybe the reason I'm wary of living with strangers is that I'm a sad geek, though in truth, I'm quite a happy geek at the moment.
